Viewing logs management

Licensing Contract defines relationships between Sellers and Buyers, from commercial rules to operations ones, regarding a list of Contents.

It is based on a Business Model and commercial and operational conditions.

Once the Contract has been validated by both parties, iKast starts monitoring the Contents distributed on Buyer's distribution channel and will fetch and store logs of each Viewing Session and build Royalties reports.

A Viewing Log is a list of parameters describing a viewing session of an end user on a Seller's distribution channel or platform. This is provided via a Connector to the Sellers' backend or can be imported via a file.

Viewing Logs structure

For each Log, parameters are:

  • nbView, superior or equal to 1, represents how many viewing sessions (people) are included in this log

  • start date, when it happened, based on UTC

  • duration, in seconds

  • country code, from ISO country codes

  • device, describes which end user's device has been used to watch the content. Its a value from the below list

Fetching Viewing logs

When the Buyer is using an automatic Connector, then data are automatically fetched and inserted in iKast's database. You've nothing to do. To make it work, each Connector may need specific glue information which has been provided by the Buyer to iKast's administrators.

Importing Logs

To import Logs, your Organization needs to be declared as using a "Raw Files" Connector for reporting.

In that case you can import per Content in a Contract via a file or a form.

The file must be encoded using CSV structure. No header accepted, just raw data.

You can check more info here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comma-separated_values

Simply clic on the icon to select a CSV file. Once imported, royalties will be right away recalculated and infringement detection ran.

Any error (mismatch in country codes, device, duration, etc) cancels the complete import.

You can find an example of CSV file below.

Second option is to manually enter Viewing logs information. By clicking the '+' icon, a form will be displayed:

Any new added log can't be modified, so it is important to cross checking inputs before confirmation.

After any Viewing Log addition (via form or file), royalties will be recalculated.
